Memorial Day Dedication scheduled for "American Eagle of Glory"
|
Shanksville, Pennsylvania (May 5, 2003) —
"Eagle of American Glory" will be formally dedicated at a ceremony at 11:00
AM Memorial Day at Flight 93 memorial Chapel, Shanksville. The eagle will be
dedicated to all those who have served in the military services and to all
those who have died in defense of freedom. The giant gilt eagle, an
authentic reproduction of an historic hand carved American Eagle is
installed sixteen feet above the chapel sanctuary. With a wing span of
almost eight feet, the majestic symbol depicts the spirit of America in the
form of a mighty noble eagle. Significant to the carving is the
representation of the talons of the American icon grasping firmly a staunch
limb of an olive tree, indicating the great past achievements of national
efforts to establish, maintain and protect the peace and liberty of America,
and to indicate the constant goal of the nation to maintain peace in all its
efforts on behalf of American citizens and also for the benefit of all the
oppressed of the world. The liberation of Iraq will be cited during the
dedication as an example of the dedication of America to the principles of
Liberty and Peace at home and abroad.
